The Henkle Middle School volleyball team consists of three teams, an eighth grade team, a seventh grade team, and a blended team. This year so far the teams have won some of their games and had a couple home games. Lori Owen, Lorraine Hernandez and Kevin Liddiard are the three coaches.
“Let’s see, I have been coaching for about 14 years now. My favorite part about coaching volleyball is seeing the improvement in the girls as the season progresses," said Mrs. Owen who’s also a P.E teacher.
“I have been coaching middle school volleyball for seven years. My favorite part about coaching, besides for the love of the sport, is getting to know kids on a different level, not just getting to know them in the classroom academically but outside of that. I would say that it is my favorite sport,” said Mrs. Hernandez, who also teaches English Language Learners and Spanish.
Sarah Iobst, a seventh/eighth blend player says, “My favorite part about volleyball is passing and setting and playing with my friends on the team. I don’t like how some of my friends are on different teams and I don’t get to play with them. The other sport I play is basketball; I’m going to play volleyball in high-school.”
“My favorite part is the games,” says Riley Gross, an eighth grade player, “I don’t like all the lectures, running and practices. I play every sport. I love volleyball; it’s the best sport ever.”
Gisselle Garcia, a seventh grade player, says her favorite part of volleyball is the bus rides “We party hard,” she says. “I play soccer, basketball and softball.” Gisselle said she is going to play volleyball in high school.
The volleyball players have three more games until the season is over. The volleyball banquet is the 19th of October.
