The 2010 Grizzly football season ended this week. Mr. Lindstrom, HMS teacher and administrative intern, is the coach along with Coach Meyers and Coach Charters.
On Oct. 13 the Henkle Grizzlies finished their season by playing their rivals Wind River. Since Wind River had a lack of 7th grade players, they only played two quarters. The seventh grade got an early lead with Deven Jacobs running for a touchdown. Kyle Guler kicked a successful PAT afterwards. Later in the first quarter the Wind River running back ran for a touchdown. Late in the second quarter the Royals scored a touchdown on 4th down after an strong defense performance by the Grizzlies, who then stopped the extra-point kick. With twelve seconds left the Grizzlies were down by four points. The Royals kicked off and Sammy Rowlen ran it back for a touchdown. The 7th grade Grizzlies won. The 8th grade players lost but they scored a 26 points. The banquet will be sometime next week.
“I have been coaching football for 18 years,” said Coach Lindstrom. “My favorite part about coaching is building teamwork. With football you can say football kids have ten other guys that they can count on, while wrestlers can only count on themselves. Grizzlies should act as gentlemen off the field and good sports on the field they’re always representing. I am most proud when they can overcome adversity when things are going wrong, overcome all those things and still do their best.”
“My favorite part about football is when I get to hit someone really hard,” said eighth grader Shane Walker. “My best moment in football is when I dropped back to my deep third and caught my interception. I play basketball. No, I am not going to play in the NFL because I’m going to be a monster truck driver with a Ford 650.”
“My favorite part is producing touchdowns for the team. My favorite moment is when I threw a touchdown pass to Noah Carmichael.” –Tanner Rabinowitz, an eighth grader
“My favorite part about football is you get to hit people. My best moment is when I almost scored a kick return touchdown.” –Kyler Riggleman, an 8th grader
“My favorite part about football is when one guy passes to another guy and you chase down that guy and then you wrap up around that guy and make the tackle. My other favorite moment is when I caused a fumble. I do baseball and basketball. I’m going to the NFL.” – Jacob Ewers, an 8th grader.
