Parent-Community forum to focus on Signs and Symptoms of Youth Substance and Alcohol Use

The White Salmon Valley School District and the Community Mobilization Against Substance Abuse (CMASA) invites parents to attend a forum beginning at 6 p.m. Monday, May 16, at the Columbia High School library.

Local Drug and Alcohol counselors will give a short presentation on Signs and Symptoms of drug and/or alcohol use. Although on-campus incidents are rare, HMS principal Rick George and CHS principal Troy Whittle will inform participants about substance possession among students at school, and other information will be distributed. Information from the fall 2010 "Healthy Youth Survey" will be shared. Other area health care professionals will be present.

Parents will also have an opportunity to meet in small groups of three or four to focus on two discussion questions:

• What are your concerns as a parent?
• How can we help each other?

The event will be 90 minutes. Snacks will be served.
